Agricultural holdings in Latvia were breeding 393.1 thousand cattle at end-2012

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau show that the number of cattle is growing – at the end of 2012 agricultural holdings were breeding 393.1 thousand cattle or 12.5 thousand heads more, as compared to the end of 2011. Rise in the cattle number was recorded in all cattle age groups: number of calves under 1 year has increased by 4.6 thousand or by 4.4%, number of heifers aged 1-2 years – by 2.9 thousand or by 5.2%, number of suckling cows – by 3.6 thousand or by 16.5%, and number of dairy cows – by 0.5 thousand or by 0.3%. ...
